A redesigned and streamlined 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid is now available, according to the Federal Student Aid Office. The new FAFSA promises to expand eligibility for federal student aid—and it must be completed by students before LaGrange College can award a financial aid package for the 2024-25 academic year.

“Families may have gotten used to earlier availability of the FAFSA, but this year’s has been delayed until now because of the government’s redesign,” said Jackie Belcher, LaGrange College Director of Financial Aid.

“Regardless of the timing, what is most important is for students to remember that the form must be completed before the college can make financial aid awards for the coming academic year. The FAFSA drives all federal aid, which includes everything from work-study and federal loans to the Pell Grant.”

The Federal Student Aid Office says the new form will increase eligibility for federal student aid. It estimates that 610,000 new students from low-income backgrounds will be eligible for Pell Grants due to the update.

The office also promises a new format that will offer students and families a more streamlined user experience.

“Applicants will be able to skip as many as 26 FAFSA questions, depending on their individual circumstances,” according to the Federal Student Aid Office. “Some applicants will need to complete as few as 18 questions, taking less than 10 minutes.”
